UK Solar Sector Supports Ukraine’s Renewable Energy Recovery

In a significant show of solidarity, the UK solar industry has rallied to support Ukraine’s renewable energy recovery amidst ongoing challenges. Solar Energy UK, the leading trade association representing over 400 solar companies, has officially partnered with RePower Ukraine, marking its first-ever charity affiliation.

This collaboration aims to bolster Ukraine’s energy resilience by installing solar and battery storage systems in critical infrastructures, notably hospitals. Over 2023-24, RePower Ukraine successfully completed ten installations across five regions, ensuring uninterrupted power supply to essential services.

One notable project includes a 33-kilowatt photovoltaic system paired with a 30 kilowatt-hour battery at the Kyiv Regional Perinatal Center. This setup guarantees continuous power for the neonatal intensive care unit, even during external outages, thereby safeguarding vital medical procedures.

Chris Hewett, Chief Executive of Solar Energy UK, expressed profound gratitude for the industry’s response, stating: “I have been overwhelmed by how our members have responded to our appeal for cash and equipment for Repower Ukraine.” He further emphasized the urgency of supporting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, especially in medical facilities, amidst ongoing adversities.

This concerted effort not only underscores the UK’s commitment to global renewable energy advancement but also highlights the pivotal role of solar technology in humanitarian aid and infrastructure resilience. As Ukraine strives for energy independence, the support from the UK solar sector serves as a beacon of hope and progress.
